The following provides a description of the Stylistic 2300's unique product features and their associated benefits.

Display Capabilities

Benefits

Breakthrough Color

The Stylistic 2300 is the first pen tablet to offer truly portable outdoor and indoor color, and features a sharp TFT display for high performance color presentations.

Color Transflective (CTF)- The Stylistic 2300's breakthrough color transflective (CTF) display uses natural sunlight to increase effective contrast in outdoor applications, and provides a backlight for dimly lit conditions. Compared to reflective displays, the CTF excels in balancing the need for superior visibility in full sunlight and a clear, even picture indoors, in shady conditions or at night. The first truly portable indoor/outdoor color display, it supports up to 4,096 colors.

TFT Color-Offering excellent contrast and color depth, the Stylistic 2300's rich TFT color display supports up to 262,144 colors and a wide viewing angle, making it easier to share information with co-workers or clients. In addition, the fast TFT display provides great multimedia performance, enabling clear viewing of full-motion video.

SVGA 800 x 600 Resolution

New to the Stylistic line is support for Super VGA (SVGA) 800 x 600 resolution, making it ideal for use in applications that require high information density and complete compatibility with desktop systems. This means the same information-rich applications that run on enterprise desktops and laptops can now run on a pen tablet.

Simultaneous External Monitor

The Stylistic 2300 supports simultaneous use of the unit's LCD and an external monitor, ideal for presentations and training. The video chipset supports external resolutions up to 1024 x 768 (XGA) with 65,536 colors, enabling easy desktop integration.

Panning

The Stylistic 2300's SVGA display can be panned (scrolled) across a larger XGA (1024 x 768) image, simply by touching the pen to the edge of the display. This allows programs written to run on higher-resolution displays to run without difficulty on the Stylistic 2300.

Zoomed Video

The Stylistic 2300 is one of the few pen tablets to offer Zoomed Video (ZV). By streaming video directly from a PC Card to the graphics controller, the audio controller and the frame buffer, ZV eliminates the need to send video and audio data through the CPU or system bus. This simple and effective method uses the well-defined PCMCIA mechanical standard to bring full-motion video (at 30 frames per second) into the portable environment.

CPU, Memory
and Storage

Benefits

233 MHz Pentium MMX Processor

The Stylistic 2300 features a 233 MHz Intel Pentium MMX processor with a 32 KB internal (L1) cache and 512 KB Level 2 (L2) cache, delivering midrange notebook performance in a pen tablet. This power enables the Stylistic 2300 to keep pace with even the most demanding enterprise and multimedia applications.

Expandable Memory

The Stylistic 2300 features 32 MB of high-performance SDRAM memory to meet the demands of Windows 95, 98 and NT. Maximum memory capacity is 96 MB, enabling the Stylistic 2300 to easily handle memory-hungry applications, such as mapping and voice recognition.

MCM Technology

Using a mere 30% of the board space required by conventional packaging, Fujitsu's state-of-the-art Multichip Module (MCM) technology enables higher chip density in a smaller space and more efficient thermal design. This improves heat dissipation and performance while controlling weight in a compact form factor. The Stylistic 2300's MCM includes the CPU, half of the core logic chipset, and the L2 cache.

Large Capacity Hard Disk Drive

The Stylistic 2300 uses an internal 2.5" Ultra ATA hard disk with 4.1 GB capacity. This massive storage capacity makes it possible for the Stylistic 2300 to keep pace with the growing size of enterprise applications, such as remote database software, mapping, and multimedia presentations.

Shock-Mounted Hard Drive

The hard disk in the Stylistic 2300 is shock-mounted, using exclusive technology developed by Fujitsu. The shock mounts extend the shock and vibration resistance of the 2.5" hard disk up to six times that of a standard notebook's hard drive. Since the hard disk is the most sensitive component in the entire system, this significantly increases the overall ruggedness and reliability of the Stylistic 2300.

Ergonomic Features

Benefits

Pen Tablet Form-Factor

The Stylistic 2300's handheld form-factor and light weight make it ideal for "on-the-spot" decision support applications. It delivers the same level of computing power and flexibility as a laptop, but in a form-factor suitable for use while walking or standing. The Stylistic 2300 pen tablet offers far greater power, flexibility and standards support than any other type of handheld, enabling it to fit seamlessly into enterprise infrastructures.

Case Design

The Stylistic 2300's case is designed to be held by either right-handed or left-handed users. The edges of the case are rounded; there is sufficient margin around the display to provide a comfortable grip area; and the Lexan plastic is textured to make it easier to hold.

When individual peripherals (such as keyboard and monitor) are attached to the Stylistic 2300, the cables are easy to manage because the majority of ports have been placed on one end of the system. All the doors on the Stylistic 2300 are thoughtfully designed. For example, the spring-loaded PC Card shutter doors can be left open or closed by the user, depending on frequency of access.

The fourth generation in the Stylistic line, its proven mechanical design helps make it among the most reliable pen tablets ever produced.

Size and Weight

The Stylistic 2300 is designed with handheld use in mind. The size and weight of the unit are optimized to put maximum capacity in the smallest and lightest package possible. The dimensions of the unit are 11.1 x 7.4 x 1.6 inches (283 x 188 x 41 mm); the unit weighs approximately 3.9 lbs. (1.8 Kg) in a standard configuration, including battery pack.

User Interface

Benefits

Hot Pads and
Status Display

FPSI's custom pen-sensitive hot pads on the Stylistic 2300 enable the user to adjust common settings with a tap of the pen. The use of hot pads eliminates any mechanical controls on the unit, resulting in increased reliability. The Stylistic 2300's hot pads include display contrast and brightness, speaker on/off and volume, monitor settings and a programmable hot pad. A convenient LCD status display indicates power status, DC input, battery charge level, charging status, HDD access and PC Card slot activity.

Rugged Stylus

The Stylistic 2300 features the same rugged stylus as Fujitsu's industry-leading Stylistic 1200. The metal-barreled pen offers durability and a superior feel over plastic competitors, and its standard AAAA battery delivers an impressive 1.5-year average life span.

High-Performance Active Digitizer

The tablet's high-performance electromagnetic digitizer provides familiar mouse-like cursor movement, while its 133 points-per-second sample rate and 1016 points per inch (0.025 mm) resolution deliver unbeatable handwriting recognition, responsiveness and accuracy.

Integrated Audio

The Stylistic 2300 enables audio applications with its internal microphone and speaker, or by attaching an external microphone or headphones to the unit's built-in audio jacks. Integrated audio allows voice recognition and the ability to record and play back voice annotations (for example, in a customer record). All audio circuitry supports full duplex sound and is Sound Blaster® Pro compatible.

Battery and Power
Management

Benefits

Advanced Power and Heat Management

The Stylistic 2300 employs a multi-level approach to achieve power and heat management that is unsurpassed in the industry. The key building blocks include the excellent processor power management capability provided by Intel's 430TX chipset and the complete implementation of APM 1.2 in the Stylistic 2300's BIOS.

The Stylistic 2300 includes FPSI's custom PM Setup, an easy-to-use utility that allows the user to control power management features, while VARs and systems integrators are able to optimize their applications for performance and battery life. The result is a customizable system that offers both blazing performance and long battery life.

ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) 1.0 is also supported on the Stylistic 2300 under Windows 98. ACPI is the very latest power management standard created by Microsoft, Intel and Toshiba. ACPI, which supercedes APM, allows the operating system (and hence the application) to gain complete control over power management, thus reducing dependency on hardware-specific BIOS implementations. Fujitsu Personal Systems is the first pen tablet vendor to support ACPI.

Lithium Ion Battery

An advanced lithium ion battery delivers 4500 mAh, enabling the Stylistic 2300 to offer up to 5 hours of continuous use (application and display dependent) and up to 10 days of suspended operation. One of the key benefits of lithium ion is the lack of any memory effect - the user never has to fully discharge the battery before recharging.

Internal Bridge Battery

An integrated, internal bridge battery allows warm-swapping of the main battery without rebooting the system or losing data in memory.

Connectivity

Benefits

Built-in 56 Kbps V.90 Modem for U.S. and Canada

Physically integrated into the Stylistic 2300, this 56K V.90 modem provides greater reliability and durability than a PC Card modem. An extra PC Card slot is freed up for other peripherals, enhancing the computer's flexibility. The integrated RJ-11 phone jack is far more convenient, reliable, and durable than a dongle.

"Radio-Ready"

The Stylistic 2300 has been designed to provide an optimum environment for the use of PC Card WAN radios. This "Radio-Ready" capability ensures that the customer's chosen radio will not interfere with the operation of the computer in any way, and that the computer will not interfere with the radio. This increases radio range by allowing the reception of weaker signals.
